Purpose

Luff Mews flats

Luff Mews consists of four ground floor and four first floor flats. Each flat has easy access via low threshold extra-wide doors. The first-floor flats can be easily accessed by stairs or lift. Each ground floor flat has an external power point by the front door for mobility vehicles if required and for the first-floor flats, there is an area nearby where mobility vehicles can be charged and stored for an annual fee.

Each of the eight flats are different in design internally, but all offer the same facilities. As you step in the doorway, the flats comprise of a hallway and off this area is a good size fitted kitchen with a hob and oven and space for a washing machine and fridge/freezer.

Each flat has a large wet room with electric shower, fitted shower seat, toilet and handbasin. The flats have one good sized bedroom, some with a fitted cupboard.

Specific designs vary, but all of the flats have a good-sized lounge or lounge/diner.

The outlook from each flat varies depending on where it is situated, but each front door overlooks a communal green area with plants and trees. This is tended by contract gardeners all year round.

Selhurst Court bungalows

Each bungalow has easy access by slope to the low threshold front door. This leads into a small vestibule for coats, shoes etc and then into the spacious lounge area which overlooks a communal courtyard. The courtyard has plants, trees, and benches for the housing tenants to sit and contemplate or have a chinwag with family, friends, or other tenants!

At the front of each bungalow there is a small flower bed, and tenants are encouraged to plant and nurture their own little area as they wish. Each bungalow has a water butt and there are watering facilities in the courtyard.

The fitted kitchen overlooks the rear of the property where there is a small patio area designated for each bungalow and a rotary washing line for your own use.  There is space for a washing machine, cooker and fridge/freezer.

The bedroom overlooks the communal green at the rear of the property. This area is tended by our contracted gardeners and is well kept all year around.

Each bungalow has a good-sized wet room which has an electric shower and a fitted seat for comfort and convenience, and an airing cupboard.

There is an area nearby where mobility vehicles can be charged and stored for an annual fee.

Our community

Attached to the Mews is our very large and well-equipped communal lounge. This is used by housing tenants for activities, some of which are arranged by our Housing Support Officer, however lots of our tenants meet up regularly for games, coffee mornings, Bible study and just general get togethers – nobody need be lonely here! At the rear of the communal lounge is another large green area where there are wall fitted washing lines for your use.

Out and about in the local area

Luff Housing is situated on the cusp of Frinton-on-Sea and Walton-on-the-Naze. We are closest to Frinton-on-Sea which has a reputation as an exclusive resort and retains an atmosphere of the 1920s and 30s. Tree-lined avenues sweep down to the elegant esplanade and cliff-top greensward, with its colourful Victorian-style beach huts. The sandy beach, just a mile away, is quiet and secluded.

The sea front is still lined by many Victorian style beach huts, which is reminiscent of the days when Frinton-on-Sea was the favourite retreat for the aristocracy and even royalty.

We are just across the road from a good-sized shopping centre which has food shops, a chemist, post office etc, so no need to travel for your everyday necessities.

There are several local churches of different denominations which are linked to the Luff community, and there are doctors' and dentists' nearby. The nearest hospital is six miles away.

We also benefit from being under a mile from the nearest train station.

A little extra support

Our Housing Support Officer meets regularly with the housing tenants and will always advise and assist with information where possible to enable you to access the help you may require. Housekeepers and maintenance staff look after the communal areas of Luff Mews flats.

Those living in housing are welcome to join morning devotions in the care home during the week, and for a regular Sunday afternoon service. They are also welcome to volunteer in the care home, whether by using a skill or talent to support an activity or group, or by befriending a particular resident.

We do not provide care services and those who find they need more care support can arrange this from external agencies.
